SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) – Springfield police says officers shot and injured two
men during a confrontation earlier this week. Police spokeswoman Jasmine Bailey
says officers were searching for 36-year-old John Hilt Monday as a person of
interest in a homicide. Officers followed Hilt, another man and a woman in a car
to a convenience store. Bailey says when detectives tried to arrest Hilt, he
fired at them. Two detectives returned fire, hitting the other man but Hilt and
the woman fled. Officers followed them to an inn. He eventually surrendered and
officers discovered he had been shot in the earlier confrontation. The men’s
injuries were not life threatening. The woman was not injured.
