WWII-era planes a part of Fly-In and Static Display

A piece of America’s fighting history will visit the Twin Lakes Area this weekend.The American Warbird Fly-In and Static Display, scheduled for Saturday at the Baxter County Airport in Midway, will feature visits from two World War II-era planes: a B-25 medium bomber and a TBM Avenger torpedo bomber.

Saturday’s fly-in and display is sponsored by Big Air LLC, the airport’s fixed-base operator; the Leading Edge Aviation Foundation; and the Experimental Aircraft Association chapter 755.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. and offer airport visitors more than a dozen aircraft on display, plane rides, informational booths, a fundraising raffle and more. Buncles Brick Oven and Brews and Paradice Cream will have food available Saturday at the airport.

Admission is free Saturday, with plane rides requiring a seperate ticket purchse.

In addition to seeing two vintage World War II era planes in person, fly-in attendees may also book rides aboard the historic aircrafts.

Trey Ressler, the manager of Big Air, talks about the some of the history of the B-25, which was introduced in 1941 and served in every theater of World War II.

Leading Edge Aviation Foundation will also be offering discovery flights throughout the event. Leading Edge director Gere Gaige talks about those flights.

Prizes in the fly-in’s raffle drawing are a 30-minute discovery flight for first prize; an Air Evac membership gift basket for second prize; and a one-year Survival Flight membership for third prize. Raffle tickets are $5, with the drawing benefiting Leading Edge Aviation Foundation.

The Baxter County Airport is located at 6462 State Highway 126 in Midway. In the event of rain, Saturday, May 29, will serve as the fly-in’s make-up date.
