After being canceled on April 28, the public auction to sell the Mountain Home Motel and the Spring Valley Motels is back on and slated for June 25 at 4 p.m. on the steps of the Baxter County Courthouse.
Originally announced on April 16, the sale is being offered after the properties were seized via a Writ of Execution filed against owner Brian Keith Ferguson to satisfy a judgment in Baxter County Circuit Court. According to a news release from Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, the sale was canceled in late April after a request from the plaintiff’s attorney.
The Mountain Home Motel is located at 411 Main St. and was classified as a nuisance property by the city in 2019. In May of 2020, the court ordered the property have a list of repairs completed in two weeks, or it would be razed. Ferguson was able to have the repairs completed in a timely matter, thus halting the condemnation process.
At the time the process began, City Building Inspector Greg Ifland said the city had received multiple complaints on the motel due to the lack of maintenance and the building’s condition. He cited the property being in violation of city ordinance. Ifland said in a quick drive-by inspection, it was noted rotted and falling fascia boards were all around the building, along with falling gutters and rotted siding, exposing the interior walls.
In 2019, the city began cracking down on multiple nuisance properties, which are described as “dilapidated, unsightly, unsafe, unsanitary, obnoxious and detrimental to the public welfare,” in court documents.
Spring Valley Motel is located at 548 U.S. Highway 62B. It has been the location of multiple drug arrests in recent years.
