Robert Dean Shaw

A Lakeview man who is accused of attacking his neighbor, throwing him into a ditch and striking him several times appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

Fifty-three-year old Robert Dean Shaw is charged with battery on a person more than 60 years of age.

Shaw entered a not guilty plea to the charge against him. He is now free on $10,000 bond.

Shaw’s 62-year-old neighbor reported to Lakeview police that he had gone out for a walk about 10:45 p.m. May 29.

He told police Shaw jumped out of the woods, shined a flashlight on him and then “charged him in an aggressive manner.”

The neighbor said Shaw threw him into a ditch and struck him in the head and face several times before leaving.

Another nearby resident saw what was happening and ran to help the victim. The second neighbor walked the victim back to his home to prevent any additional attacks by Shaw.

As a result of the alleged attack, the neighbor was said to be bleeding from his head and knees. He also said he had hyper-extended his left shoulder trying to keep from being thrown into the ditch.

Shaw was reported to have threatened the neighbor in the past.
