After winning the last two state championships in Class 1A, the Viola High School baseball team is looking for new leadership. Head coach Clayton Gardner is leaving the Longhorns’ program after being hired for the same position Friday by the Flippin School Board.
Gardner says as tough as it was to leave Viola, he is excited about his new opportunity with the Bobcats.
Listen:
Gardner has been a part of the Viola community for the majority of his life. He grew up going to school as a Longhorn and returned in 2009 when he was hired to assist then-head coach Jeremy Lewis. Gardner got the head coaching position a couple of years later when Lewis left for Highland.
Gardner attributes his success to the athletes he has been able to coach over the last few years.
Listen:
Gardner says since he was just hired at the end of last week, the details of when he officially begins his duties at Flippin are unclear.
