A Fulton County man who ran a woman’s vehicle off the road and then fled from police faces a litany of charges after the incident on June 14 near Ash Flat.
James Lasley Cain is jailed on a $5,000, cash-only bond on felony charges of aggravated assault and fleeing in a vehicle, as well as misdemeanors of DWI-drugs, refusal to submit, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, driving on a suspended license and no proof of insurance.
According to the probable cause affidavit in the case, the victim was driving on Kenner Road when she met another vehicle – which was later identified as being driven by Cain – at the intersection of Wood Hollow Road.
Cain allegedly wrecked at the intersection as he attempted to turn his vehicle around on the victim, then pursued the victim’s vehicle and intentionally rammed it, causing it to be disabled. Cain fled the scene of the initial crash and was located by law enforcement traveling at a high rate of speed toward U.S. Highway 62/412.
The vehicle was traveling with a blown-out tire and Cain wrecked again near a local business. Cain allegedly got the vehicle going again and attempted to flee once more. He encountered an Ash Flat officer, turned the vehicle toward the officer’s patrol vehicle and allegedly attempted to ram it. The chase came to an end when Cain wrecked for the final time near the Sears store.
Authorities report Cain refused to cooperate with any DWI tests, claimed he had smoked what he believed to be marijuana earlier in the evening and pretended to fall asleep. Cain allegedly told the officer his “plan was to go out with a bang tonight and hit and kill a police officer and then (himself).”
