The Red White and Blue Festival enjoyed large crowd turnouts both days and good weather for the event-ending fireworks display over the campus of Arkansas State University-Mountain Home.

An estimated crowd of 6,000 gathered on the ASU-MH campus Friday night to hear country chart-toppers Lonestar perform.

Local favorites The Kattie Laney Project and The Melodikats headlined Saturday night, drawing another large crowd to the college campus before the event’s signature fireworks show capped the weekend’s festivities.

Bratton said no major problems were reported with the fireworks show, which was witnessed by an estimated crowd of between 15,000 and 20,000 across town.

The chance of rainfall forecast for the Twin Lakes Area for the weekend failed to materialize, leaving clear skies for the fireworks Saturday night.

Bratton talks about the weekend’s weather.

At the U.S. Veterans Outreach Suicide Prevention Steak Cookoff Friday evening, Jonesboro’s Katelyn Crain won $1,000 and bragging rights for having the best-tasting steak. Marissa Ouverson of Ames, Iowa, took home first place for best potato dish.

This year’s Red, White and Blue Festival marked a return for the event, which was canceled in early 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bratton said the festival’s organizers will meet after the Fourth of July holiday to recap this year’s event and begin planning the 2022 event.
