
Lakeview Mayor Dennis Behling was recently elected as the Arkansas Municipal League’s District 1 vice president for the 2021-2022 year. Behling was chosen at the league’s 87th annual convention, which was held online June 16-18.
The Arkansas Municipal League (AML) acts as the official representative of Arkansas cities and towns before the state and federal governments. It also serves as a clearing house for municipal information and counts more than 500 Arkansas cities in its membership.

Other officers elected for 2021-2022 include Berryville Mayor Tim McKinney as president, Sherwood Mayor Virginia Young as first vice president, Beebe City Clerk/Treasurer Carol Westergren as District 2 vice president, Bella Vista Mayor Pete Christie as Distrct 3 vice president and Mena Council Member James Turner as District 4 vice president.

Behling has previously served on the AML’s Incorporated Towns and Cities of the Second Class Advisory Council from 2009 to 2014, the Executive Committee from 2014 to 2016, and as chair of the Incorporated Towns and Cities of the Second Class Advisory Council from 2016 until 2021.
Behling has served as Lakeview’s mayor for the past 12 years, being appointed to the office by the Lakeview City Council in 2009 and then being elected to the office the following year. He was re-elected in 2014 and 2018.
Prior to taking office as Lakeview mayor, Behling was active in the Lakeview Fire Department and served as a member of the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission. He was active in city government in Wisconsin for 20 years before moving to Lakeview.
