Michael Ransom Hobbs
A 29-year-old Mountain Home man found passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle shortly before daybreak faces a trio of drug charges.
Michael Ransom Hobbs was arrested last Friday morning on charges of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) with intent to deliver, possession of a schedule II controlled substance (oxycodone) with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia for the purpose of selling methamphetamine. He also faces a penalty enhancement of proximity to certain facilities, in this case within 1,000 feet of a church and a daycare.
The Mountain Home Police Department received a report of a man passed out behind the wheel in a local apartment complex at 5:38 a.m. When officers arrived on scene, the found a man, later identified as Hobbs, behind the wheel. The vehicle was turned on, in gear and Hobbs had his foot on the brake, according to the probable cause affidavit. The report notes the vehicle was in the driving lane of the parking lot, not in a parking spot.
Paramedics were called to the scene and were able to wake Hobbs and remove him from the vehicle. He was immediately arrested for public intoxication, as officers report Hobbs was “obviously impaired.” While removing Hobbs from the vehicle, officers located a bong that is commonly used to ingest drugs, in plain sight.
A further search of the vehicle uncovered a block pouch containing a clear bag with approximately 89 grams of crystalline substance in it. Officers also found a baggie with nine grams of crystalline substance, a clear bag containing a small amount of marijuana, a digital scale, empty baggies that are commonly used for the sale of illegal drugs and 62 pills that were identified as oxycodone.
The affidavit notes in a post-Miranda interview, Hobbs agreed that he was too impaired to drive and the crystalline substance was meth.
