Two Mountain Home teenagers recently wrapped up their second year of selling and delivering produce as a Future Farmers of America project.

Baker Twins Produce, operated by 14-year-olds Hannah and Hadleigh Baker, imports corn and strawberries from around Arkansas and sells it to friends and family through social media. The twins completed their second yearly corn sale last week, and will offer customers flats of strawberries again next May.

Hannah Baker describes how Baker Twins Produce came to be.

Baker Twins Produce acquires its strawberries from Newport, Judsonia and Bald Knob and gets corn from Dumas. The Bakers said they hoped to expand their produce offerings in the future, but wanted to take things slow. Orders are currently accepted in advance through social media, and the twins then purchase that season’s produce, pick it up and deliver it their customers.

The twins are operating their produce business as a supervised agricultural experience (SAE) project through the Mountain Home High School chapter of the Future Farmers of America.

Hadleigh Baker explains what an SAE project is.

SAEs are one of the main requirements FFA members must complete to advance through the program’s various degrees. The American FFA Degree is the organization’s highest honor, requiring applicants to demonstrate the highest level of commitment to FFA and make significant accomplishments with their SAE projects.

The produce business is not the only SAE operated by Hannah and Hadleigh Baker. Hannah also operates a livestock SAE raising sheep and Hadleigh operates a dog-breeding SAE project. The Bakers said revenue generated from their SAEs are saved for college.

Baker Twins Produce is active on Facebook, and the teens said they are considering establishing an Instagram account for their produce delivery service.

Hannah and Hadleigh Baker will start the ninth grade next month when school resumes. They are the daughters of Josh and Laura Beth Baker of Mountain Home.
