Both Baxter County and the City of Mountain Home reported another month of eye-popping sales tax numbers for June, reports from county and city officials indicate.

June’s sales tax reports were the second-largest ever for both the city and county, being bested only by the numbers reported for May, the month before.

Baxter County collected a total of $782,561 from its 1% sales tax for the month of May, keeping 58% percent of that revenue and distributing the rest among the county’s nine cities based on their population.

According to figures released by County Treasurer Jenay Mize, Baxter County’s portion of that sales tax was $451,952. That is a 21.7% increase of $80,546 in sales tax revenue compared to the June 2020 collection of $371,406.

Mountain Home Treasurer Marshella Norell reports that the city collected $548,227 in June revenue from its own 1% sales tax. That is a 25.9% increase of $112,823 from its June 2020 sales tax collection of $435,404.

Sales tax distributions are made two months after sales taxes are collected by area businesses. June’s numbers reflect area spending from April.

Mize says she’s happy to see the sales tax numbers continue to surge.
