ST. LOUIS (AP) – A mother and her boyfriend have been charged in the overdose death last month of the woman’s 1-year-old child, authorities in suburban St. Louis said.

Ebony Woods, 28, of north St. Louis County, and Shaun Survillion, 40, of St. Louis, are charged with one count each of felony child endangerment, officials said.

Police have said Woods called paramedics on July 7 as the baby struggled to breathe. The baby, Emya Woods, was taken to a nearby hospital, then flown to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, where she died the next day. Doctors said the baby tested positive for fentanyl, a powerful and often deadly synthetic opioid.

Police say they found open drug capsules in Woods’ living room and kitchen, and that Survillion said the capsules were his. Survillion allegedly told police he used fentanyl only outside Woods’ home, but kept fentanyl paraphernalia inside her home. Additionally, police said Woods tested positive for heroin, cocaine, marijuana and PCP.

Survillion and Woods are each being held on $100,000 cash bond.
