A 51-year-old Fulton County man was arrested August 7 near Mammoth Spring on drug and weapons charges.

According to a probable cause affidavit from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, James Aaron Dennis II faces simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, a Class Y Felony, the most serious classification of crime in Arkansas not punishable by the death penalty.

He also faces felony charges of possession of a controlled substance with the purpose to deliver (methamphetamine), felon in possession of a firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia with the purpose to analyze methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia with the purpose to inhale methamphetamine.

Dennis was traveling in a vehicle on Arkansas Highway 9 with a expired license plate. During a traffic stop, a Fulton County deputy observed Dennis “speaking erratic and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.” He then allegedly admitted to the deputy he had recently smoked meth in the vehicle and he was concealing a small plastic bag containing meth in the vehicle.

A subsequent search of the vehicle located a rifle, handgun, three large vials of meth, a set of digital scales and two glass smoking devices.

Dennis was released on a $10,000 bond.
