Philip Wilson
A psychological examination will be sought for a Mountain Home man who told police he was carrying a defaced firearm to protect himself against COVID-19.
Mark Cooper, defense attorney for 29-year-old Philip Andrew Wilson, announced during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday that he would be filing a motion requesting the court to order the examination.
According to court records, Wilson has been diagnosed as bipolar.
Wilson was arrested in early February after a short pursuit which began when an officer saw him run a stop sign. According to the probable cause affidavit, Wilson is alleged to have told the officer that he was a convicted felon and there was a firearm in the vehicle. It is illegal for convicted felons to be around weapons.
A black pistol was found on which a serial number on the barrel had been ground off. A black box containing ammunition for the pistol was also found.
One visible serial number was located and when the number was checked, the weapon showed to have been reported stolen from Memphis, Tennessee.
Once the court approves the psychological examination, all activity in Wilson’s case will stop until a report on his mental condition is received.
