The parade of head-turning sales tax reports continued in July, with Baxter County reporting its second-best month of all time and the City of Mountain Home filing its third-best monthly report ever.
Sales tax collections for both the city and county have been up all year in 2021, but those numbers have boomed over the past three months. Both the city and the county’s best three months for sales tax have come in the months of May, June and July.
Baxter County collected a total of $786,347 from its 1% sales tax for the month of July, keeping 58% percent of that revenue and distributing the rest among the county’s nine cities based on their population.
According to figures released by County Treasurer Jenay Mize, Baxter County’s portion of that sales tax was $454,139. That is an 8.5% increase of $35,613 in sales tax revenue compared to the July 2020 collection of $418,526.
Baxter County’s July 2021 sales tax collection is the second-highest all time for the county, eclipsed only by the May 2021 report. In that month, the county collected $837,987 in total, keeping $483,962 for itself and distributing the rest to the county’s cities.
Mize talks about July’s sales tax report and what could be helping to keep the monthly numbers on such a positive trend.

Mountain Home’s July 2021 report was its third best all time. It collected $574,012 from its 1% sales tax in May and $548,227 in June.
Sales tax reports are released by the state Department of Finance and Administration two months after the taxes are collected by area businesses. July’s numbers reflect area spending from May.
