
A 41-year-old man has died after a water emergency Saturday evening in the Cranfield Park area of Norfork Lake.
According to a news release from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, Adam T. Short of Pontiac, Michigan, died after he attempted to swim across the lake.
A deputy on park patrol was flagged down by citizens at the park and was notified of a water emergency at approximately 5:45. The deputy arrived on scene to find bystanders performing CPR on Short and the deputy took over CPR compressions until EMS personnel from Baxter Regional Medical Center arrived on scene.
Witnesses reported Short was trying to swim across the lake and began having difficulty. He was brought to shore by bystanders, who began CPR as the man was not breathing. Short was transported to Baxter Regional for treatment, but did not survive the incident, according to the release.
The body is being sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for autopsy to determine the cause of death.
