William G. Palmer

A 33-year-old Oakland man allegedly assaulted multiple members of his family after they advised him to notify his boss he would not be in to work that day.

William G. Palmer faces three counts of terroristic threatening, two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of second-degree domestic battery and endangering the welfare of a minor, all felonies. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of third-degree domestic battery.

Palmer was arrested on Aug. 14 and is being held in the Marion County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond.

The incident occurred in the morning hours of June 15 at a home on County Road 127 in Oakland.

Palmer’s father reported that Palmer was “very upset that his hands were hurting and didn’t want to go to work because of the pain.” The father then told Palmer he should call his boss and let him know, with Palmer responding by attacking his father. Palmer allegedly forced his father against the wall, threw him on the ground and began stomping his head.

Other family members attempted to stop the beating and Palmer allegedly attempted to choke his brother. The altercation spilled outside on the patio, where the brother was finally able to escape Palmer’s chokehold. Palmer then grabbed his child and attempted to flee the scene, but the vehicle became stuck in a ditch, with the child hopping out of the truck and hiding until Palmer left the area.

Palmer allegedly threatened he would return to the property and kill his entire family before fleeing the scene.
