A 42-year-old Izard County Woman who slipped her cuffs, escaped the back of a police cruiser and assaulted a deputy faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.

Lena Krystal Cone of Melbourne was arrested Aug. 21 on felony charges of aggravated assault and second-degree battery. She also faces misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, third-degree escape and criminal mischief.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Izard County authorities received a call of an intoxicated female causing a disturbance at a residence on Judge Ashley Road at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Deputies arrived to find two garage doors on the house had been smashed through with a vehicle. A deputy then heard a woman’s voice in coming from the back yard, followed by the sound of glass breaking. The deputy located a woman, later identified as Cone, entering through and opening a smashed glass door.

Authorities then observed Cone moving aggressively toward a man in the home before being restrained by the deputy. The woman became agitated when detained and screamed at the man for his alleged “cheating.” Cone was resistant while being escorted to the police car, cussing and yelling at officers on scene.

While officers returned to the home to interview the victim, they learned Cone had recently violated a trespass order against her at a Melbourne business. When deputies completed their work in the residence, the returned to the cruiser to find the rear passenger door open and Cone missing.

After a search of the property and the surrounding neighborhood, authorities found Cone lying face up in a creek. When officers went to apprehend her, Cone allegedly “began a frantic attempt to get out of the restraints.”

Cone would refuse medical attention and told officers “take me to jail”, but dropped to her knees and refused to stand or cooperate with officers. After being secured in the cruiser, Cone attempted to open the door and roll the window down. When arriving at the detention center, the deputy opened the door and found Cone had already unbuckled her seat belt and refused to get out.

After being told she would be physically extracted, Cone allegedly told the officers, “try it.” The deputy then noticed Cone had slipped her left hand from the cuffs and began actively resisting being removed. The officer was able to take Cone by the shoulder and “rolled her out of the patrol unit.”

She immediately became combative, swinging and kicking the officer. Cone allegedly kicked the deputy in the chest, knocking him off balance. She then continued swinging her fists, striking the deputy in the head with cuff still attached to her wrist.

The officer pulled his Phazzer device and told Cone she would be tased if she did not stop resisting. The woman took another swing and the deputy deployed the taser, with only one prong making contact. The deputy had to engage Cone to “drive stun” her in the chest, causing her to drop to the floor. Cone started to resist once more and was tased twice more before being restrained. She again refused to stand or walk and had to be carried into a cell.

During the altercation, the deputy sustained minor trauma to his left eye and temple area, with Cone drawing blood from one of the wounds.
