2 area hospitals in top 10 of least profitable in Arkansas

As hospitals across the country have been struggling financially during the COVID-19 pandemic, many in Arkansas have been receiving government relief money to offset losses, but many are still operating in the red. An article in Arkansas Business, lists the top 10 most profitable and least profitable hospitals in the state and two area hospitals rank in the bottom 10.



Among the top 10 least profitable hospitals are North Arkansas Regional Medical Center (NARMC) in Harrison and Izard County Medical Center in Calico Rock.

The article says NARMC lost $2.97 million for its fiscal year ending March 31, 2020. North Arkansas Regional has 120 beds and 577 employees. Izard County Medical Center, which has 25 beds and 55 employees, lost $2.39 million for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2020.

The two local hospitals are among 25 of the state’s 92 hospitals which reported a net loss. Of the hospitals which reported losses, 10 of them had 25 beds or fewer.

The most profitable hospital in Arkansas according to the article is Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock with a profit of $99.28 million.

Medical facilities have been dealing with high labor costs and increasing costs of supplies.
