Several high school girls’ basketball teams gathered at Flippin Saturday for the Billy Ply Classic. Cotter fell to Mountain View 48-39, Norfork was edged out by Bentonville West 47-44, the host Lady Bobcats lost to Harrison 55-50, Bergman defeated Lamar 59-48, Thayer topped Kingston 63-46, and Har-Ber beat Strafford, Missouri, 70-55.
Gainesville finished seventh in the Norwood Lady Pirate Invitational Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs squeaked by RUSH by a final of 28-27.
The Izard County Invitational Basketball Tournament came to an end, with Melbourne winning all but one championship.
In the senior girls’ game, Salem fell to the Lady Bearkatz 49-40. Melbourne’s only loss was in the senior boys’ contest, as they were toppled by Cave City 50-35.
Melbourne swept Izard County in both junior high games. The boys’ game ended with the Junior Bearkatz getting the 41-34 victory, and Melbourne’s junior girls also won 45-26.
