A local man is accused of beating two women, including his ex-wife and breaking into her residence. Thirty-seven-year-old Charles Gillingham of the Promise Land area is in the Marion County Law Enforcement Center with his bond set at $75,000.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a Marion County deputy was dispatched to a residence on County Road 145 in Oakland on Nov. 24 for a physical domestic in progress. A female accused her ex-husband, identified as Gillingham, of breaking into her residence and beating her with a bat.

She stated Gillingham and another female broke through the front door. He allegedly struck his ex-wife in the right eye, started bossing and yelling at her and laid down on the couch to take a nap. When he woke up, he was reportedly in a rage and started hitting her all over her body with a baseball bat. Gillingham later allegedly threatened to kill her, if she called the cops, and ran out of the house.

The victim was transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center with a broken arm and a bruised upper thigh. The deputy says he confiscated two baseball bats.

During the attack with the bat, the female with Gillingham ran out of the residence. The deputy later contacted her, and she claimed she was held against her will for most of the morning. She stated she and Gillingham left her mother’s residence, where they both live, and headed to his ex-wife’s house. The female asked where they were going, and Gillingham reportedly said he wanted his guns. He allegedly became upset with the questioning and struck the female above her left eye.

The female claims Gillingham had her call her mother to avoid worrying and then smashed her phone. The female says she ran into the woods to hide, and he threatened to go after her parents, if she didn’t return. When she came out, Gillingham allegedly kicked her multiple times, grabbed her by the hair and threw her into the vehicle. He then reportedly held a knife to the female’s throat and threatened to cut off her limbs, if she didn’t behave correctly. Gillingham also reportedly spoke of suicidal thoughts on the way to his ex-wife’s residence.

Upon arrival, Gillingham allegedly attempted to kick the front door and throw rocks at the windows. The female says he then returned to the vehicle and drove it into the front of the residence. She corroborated the account by Gillingham’s ex-wife and said she ran out the front door to the neighbor’s residence to contact authorities.

Gillingham is facing two felony counts of terroristic threatening and a felony count each of first-degree battery, breaking or entering, aggravated assault, criminal mischief and a charge as a habitual offender. He is also charged with a misdemeanor count of third-degree domestic battering.
