The Mountain Home High School basketball teams’ final road trip of 2021 ended with mixed results on Tuesday, as they renewed their rivalry with Harrison. Matt Sharp has the details.
Listen:
There’s an old cliché: “Basketball is a game of runs.” That proved to be true in the Lady Bombers’ 40-38 victory over the Lady Goblins. Mountain Home had the lead early in the game, but Harrison scored the last eight points of the first quarter to go up five and maintained the lead for the remainder of the half. The Lady Bombers went back on top after hitting five three-pointers in the third quarter and pulled away further in the final period. However, the Lady Goblins made a comeback and tied the game inside the final minute. After Mountain Home missed a layup attempt, Harrison got the ball back with a chance at a game-winning basket. But when the Lady Goblins tried to get the ball in the paint, Kamryn Mullin came up with the steal and was fouled in the process. Mullin hit both ends of a one-and-one with two seconds left, and Harrison’s final heave came up short.
Annie Norcross had a happy birthday, as she led the Lady Bombers with 17 points, and Parker Huskey added 10. For the Lady Goblins, Clare Barger scored 15 points, and Reese Ricketts chipped in 10.
Harrison falls to 4-7 on the season. Mountain Home improves to 2-7 and will host West Plains on Saturday.
The boys’ game had a different result, as the Bombers lost to the Goblins 60-38. The game was back-and-forth in the first half, as the two teams had seven lead changes and four ties, and Harrison was up one at the break. Things changed in the second half, as the Goblins seemed to do everything right, and Mountain Home went cold. Harrison outscored the Bombers 33-12 in the second half on their way to a 22-point victory.
Mountain Home was led by Luke Proctor with 10 points. Logan Plumlee had 16 points for the Goblins, Kason Hillgoss finished with 15 off the bench, and Gatlin James ended up with 14.
Harrison is now 6-5 on the year. The Bombers drop to 1-7, and they’ll have one more game before Christmas, as they entertain Rogers next Tuesday.
