
A pair of area high school boys’ basketball teams suffered losses in the Billy Ply Classic Saturday at Flippin. Cotter fell to Rivercrest 54-45, and Bergman lost to Manila 68-58.
Mammoth Spring’s girls were able to keep the championship trophy at home after hosting the Battle of the Border Tournament. The Lady Bears invoked the mercy rule, as they routed Thayer 79-47.
The Viola girls finished in fourth place in the tournament. The Lady Longhorns fell to Willow Spring by a final of 55-38.
Viola did not fare any better on the boys’ side, as they fell in the consolation title game. The Longhorns lost to Mammoth Spring 60-53.
Mammoth Spring’s Brynn Washam was named the MVP of the tournament on the girls’ side. She was joined by fellow teammates Tay Davis and Megyn Upton on the All-Tournament team, and A.J. McCandlis of Viola also made the list. Gavin Boddie was on the boys’ All-Tournament team.
