Human remains have been recovered following a structure fire in the Buford-Cartney area. The fire was reported to Baxter County 911 dispatch early Sunday morning.
According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, the report came in at 5:12 of a fire on Old School House Trail, and the residence was fully engulfed. When area fire departments responded to the scene, they were told a female may have been in the residence. Investigators were called to the scene, and human remains were later discovered.
Sheriff Montgomery says the cause of the fire has not been determined. The remains will be sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock to confirm the identity.
