West Plains police officers have located the apparent victim of a shooting incident on Monday evening who had declined to report the incident or seek medical attention.
The West Plains Police Department advises the apparent victim of the shooting was located Wednesday.
The discovery follows the department responding to the area of Walker Street shortly before 6 Monday evening for a report of shots having been heard in the area. Responding officers could find no evidence of the shooting and were not contacted by any witnesses.
About 18 minutes later, officers received a second call of shots being fired in the area of Grace and Woods streets.
Officers checked the area and eventually discovered bullet holes in a residence in the 200 block of Woods Street. They contacted the occupants of the residence who were aware of the shots into their household but had not reported the incident.
At the time, there were three adult occupants in the residence who reported that a subject in a light-colored SUV had shot four rounds at their residence.
During the investigation of the drive-by shooting incident, investigators learned of a possible victim in the area of Walker and Maple that may have been wounded.
On Wednesday, detectives discovered a crime scene in an apartment complex in the 400 block of Maple where they located a subject who indicated he was struck on Monday at the time the first set of shots were reported.
The victim advised he had not reported the incident and refused medical treatment at the time. The 23-year-old male victim had a through-and-through apparent gunshot wound to the right leg.
The victim advised he was outside his apartment when a subject approached him wearing a mask, displaying a handgun and ordered him to get into a light-colored SUV. The victim refused, and the suspect then fired five to six rounds at him, one of which struck him in the leg.
Investigators believe both incidents of shots fired Monday are related, and the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with any information or who may have been a witness to any of these incidents is asked to contact the West Plains Police Department at (417) 256-2244.
