Tuesday basketball results include Norfork girls winning in Northark quarterfinals

The North Arkansas College Invitational Tournament began its quarterfinal round Tuesday at the Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison. Norfork’s girls defeated Marshall 51-15, and the Jasper boys were upset by Shirley 50-49.

The Arkansas State University-Mountain Home/Arvest Bank Winter Jam’s second day of action at Yellville-Summit included a triple overtime game as Bakersfield’s boys got past Lead Hill 69-64. Cody Paul, who hit a 30-foot buzzer beater to force the third extra period, led Lead Hill with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Jayce Williams scored 15 points, and Mason Cain grabbed 10 boards.

The Bakersfield girls also topped Lead Hill 32-26. Yellville-Summit won its girls’ game over Couch 61-15, but the Panthers lost the boys’ contest 55-27.

Four area boys teams returned to the Cabool Holiday Tournament. In the quarterfinals, Viola fell to top-seeded Thayer 64-29, and Gainesville was edged out by Mansfield 40-39. On the consolation side, Lutie beat Eminence 55-42, and Dora was eliminated by Summersville 73-52.

Viola’s girls had a rough day to open Holiday Hoops at Berryville as they fell to Danville 58-51. The Lady Longhorns were led by A.J. McCandlis with 36 points.

Five area boys’ teams opened the Bad Boy Mowers Ronnie Brogdon Invitational Tournament at Highland. In the Maverick Division, Calico Rock got past Melbourne 64-60, Izard County’s junior varsity squad lost to the host Rebels 60-35, and Mammoth Spring fell to Manila 71-32. Izard County won its Outlaw Division opener over Batesville 51-40. Gunner Gleghorn was the Cougars’ top scorer with 28 points, and Jude Everett added 11. Izard County improves to 10-6 on the season.

Two area schools suffered losses in the Mountain Grove Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament. Gainesville was bounced from the consolation bracket with a 60-17 loss to Alton, and Dora fell to Houston 59-50 in the quarterfinals. Cassidy Hambelton led the Lady Falcons with 40 points.

Mammoth Spring’s girls were able to invoke the mercy rule to begin the Lady Blackhawk Holiday Invitational Tournament at Pea Ridge with a 78-35 decision over Joe T. Robinson. The Lady Bears were led by Brynn Washam with 14 points, Joslyn Tucker and Laney Young scored 13 each, and Tay Davis and Sara Crowe each chipped in 12. Mammoth Spring is now 15-5 on the year.

The Melbourne girls were victorious in the Division II semifinals of the NEA Invitational Basketball Tournament at Jonesboro. The Lady Bearkatz squeaked by Greene County Tech 54-51.

Two area boys’ teams faced off in the second day of the Lendel Thomas Classic in Harrison. Bergman was able to get past the host Goblins 79-77.

Bergman’s girls picked up an easy win to start Hoops for Hunger at Russellville. The Lady Panthers breezed past Dardanelle 68-41.
