
The North Arkansas College Invitational Tournament wrapped up its quarterfinal round Wednesday at the Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison. On the girls’ side, Cotter was eliminated by Clinton 59-30, and Jasper defeated Kingston 62-49. In the boys’ games, Ozark Mountain topped Clinton 65-51, and Marshall got past Valley Springs 66-62.
Yellville-Summit had mixed results with Bakersfield, as they hosted the final day of the Arkansas State University-Mountain Home/Arvest Bank Winter Jam. The Lady Panthers beat the Lady Lions 52-39, but Yellville-Summit’s boys fell to Bakersfield 54-27.
In the first boys’ game at the Winter Jam, Lead Hill defeated Couch 77-66. Cody Paul led Lead Hill with 31 points, Will Mancinelli scored 16, and Jayce Williams and Dustin Turner added 11 each. Lead Hill also took the girls’ contest over Couch 38-10.
Three area boys’ teams continued action in the Cabool Holiday Tournament. Viola was edged out by Plato 51-48, Gainesville beat up on Licking 69-49, and Lutie lost to Winona 64-51.
Five area boys’ teams competed in the second day of the Bad Boy Mowers Ronnie Brogdon Invitational Tournament at Highland.
In the Maverick Division, Calico Rock suffered a loss in the semifinals. The Pirates fell to the New School by a final of 60-57.
On the consolation side, Mammoth Spring defeated Izard County’s junior varsity squad 66-50. The Bears were led by Gavin Boddie with 25 points, Andrew Jones had 13, and Nate Rogers chipped in 12.
Melbourne will be Mammoth Spring’s opponent in the fifth-place game. The Bearkatz picked up an easy 80-58 victory over Middle College from Memphis.
Izard County’s varsity team fell to Hot Springs 54-39 in the Outlaw Division semifinals. Gunner Gleghorn was the Cougars’ top scorer with 24 points. Izard County drops to 10-7 on the season.
Dora was able to advance to the fifth-place game of the Mountain Grove Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament with a 55-46 win over Cabool. Cassidy Hambelton paced the Lady Falcons with 38 points.
The Mammoth Spring girls were able to move on to the title game of the Lady Blackhawk Holiday Invitational Tournament at Pea Ridge with a 59-55 victory over Winnsboro, Texas. The Lady Bears were led by Sara Crowe with 18 points, Laney Young finished with 12, and Joslyn Tucker ended up with 10. Mammoth Spring improves to 16-5 on the year.
Melbourne’s girls were able to invoke the mercy rule on their way to the Division II championship of the NEA Invitational Basketball Tournament at Jonesboro. The Lady Bearkatz pounded Nettleton 72-37.
The Lendel Thomas Classic came to an end at Harrison. Bergman’s boys topped Earle 69-56, and the host Goblins squeaked by Springfield Hillcrest 70-68.
The Bergman girls advanced to the championship game of Hoops for Hunger at Russellville. The Lady Panthers breezed past Van Buren 49-26.
