Anyone seeing smoke from the area of Big Creek Golf and Country Club in Mountain Home Thursday should not be alarmed. The Big Creek quail habitat burn will be conducted Thursday starting around 10. The first fields burned will be the large ones burned in summer 2019 around holes 12 and 13. From there, the burn will be moving up to areas closer to the clubhouse on the back nine before moving to areas on the front nine.

Officials also plan to burn the underbrush in the heavily forested area between holes 11 and 12, which has not been burned before. The Arkansas Forestry Division came in and used a bulldozer to cut a firebreak along the edge of the field north of hole 13 to prevent fire going through those woods. The other areas are all contained by the golf cart path, creeks or streets. Club maintenance crews will be on hand with a spray truck to “wet line” fairways that abut burn fields.

The course will be open, but portions may be off limits from time to time as smoke and conditions dictate.
