The Twin Lakes Area hit a weather record in one category and fell just short in another. At KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot, the official reporting station for the National Weather Service in Mountain Home, a total of 2.8 inches was measured on Sunday morning. The record for Jan. 16 is currently 3 inches in 1978. But the snow combined with the rain set a new mark for precipitation, as 1.87 inches were recorded between 7 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Sunday. The previous record was 1.44 inches, also in 1978.
Reports of snowfall throughout the area varied. Lakeway weather watcher Judy Young says that area received 9 1/2 inches of snow over the last 24 hours. However, a spokesperson at the National Weather Service office in North Little Rock says the bureau received a report of no snow in an undisclosed portion of North Central Arkansas.
