
The Norfork High School girls’ basketball team was able to breeze its way to a seventh-place finish in the Nixa Girls Invitational Tournament on Saturday. The Lady Panthers invoked the mercy rule and pounded Carnahan Prep 60-25.
Western Grove was able to pick up a sweep at Jasper. The Bears topped the Pirates 65-50 in the boys’ game. Western Grove’s girls squeaked by Jasper 57-56.
Izard County’s boys were able to edge out Dierks 44-43 in overtime at Magnet Cove. Gunner Gleghorn’s basket from just inside the free throw line with 4.1 seconds remaining in the extra period was the game winner. Gleghorn led the Cougars with 26 points, and Denton Reiley added 12. Izard County improves to 14-11 on the season.
Saturday was a tough road outing for the Melbourne boys. The Bearkatz fell to Magnet Cove 60-46.
Lead Hill ended up with mixed results at Omaha. The Tigers took the boys’ game over the Eagles 66-55. Lead Hill did not fare as well in the girls’ contest, as they lost to Omaha 40-17.
Bergman was able to pick up a pair of easy wins over Lincoln. The Lady Panthers pounded Lady Wolves 64-14 to remain unbeaten. Bergman’s boys also routed Lincoln 89-34.
The Valley Springs boys had a rough outing in front of the home crowd. The Tigers suffered a 51-32 loss at the hands of Elkins.
