It was championship Saturday in the 5A-East Junior High District Tournament, as the Mountain Home freshman girls defeated Greene County Tech, a team that had beaten them twice before in the regular season in front of a raucous crowd by the score of 44-38.

Greene County Tech, in front of the home supporters, came out firing and got out to a 7-2 lead. But the Junior Lady Bombers would respond right back with a 5-0 run to close the quarter at a 7-7 tie after Laykin Moore collected her second foul and would have to sit for the remainder of the fist half. Mountain Home and the Junior Lady Eagles would trade baskets, until Tech would throw a 6-0 run at the Lady Bombers, capped off by a steal and score from Weslyn Burnside that would propel the Lady Eagles to a 20-16 halftime lead. However, in the third quarter, Mountain Home would amp up the pressure to win the quarter by one and cut the Lady Eagle lead to three by the score of 28-25. In the final quarter the game was taken over by Jayla Yonkers, who scored 16 points, including going 8-8 at the charity stripe, to help propel the Junior Lady Bombers to the victory.

Mountain Home was led in scoring by Yonkers, who finished with 20 points, and Whitten Coleman had 13 points. Burnside paced Tech with eight points.

The Lady Bombers finish with a record of 19-4 and are champions of the 5A-East District Tournament.

The Lady Eagles suffer their second loss, fall to 26-2 and finish as runners-up of the 5A-East District Tournament.
