
The Yellville-Summit High School boys’ basketball team is one win away from a regional bid after picking up another victory in the 2A-1 District Tournament at Flippin. The Panthers needed overtime, but they were able to upset Life Way Christian 76-75.
In the other boys’ game at Flippin, Decatur edged out the Arkansas Arts Academy 66-65. On the girls’ side, Alpena routed Haas Hall-Bentonville 69-17, and Life Way Christian pounded Decatur 46-18.
The 1A-2 District Tournament got underway at Shirley.
Viola’s girls breezed their way to a 48-19 win over the host Lady Blue Devils. A.J. McCandlis led the Lady Longhorns with 19 points, and Kailey Hallmark added 12. Viola improves to 16-15 on the season.
The Calico Rock girls watched their season come to an end after getting upset by Izard County 52-28. The Lady Cougars were led by Quinn Johnson with 33 points.
Timbo was eliminated from the boys’ bracket. The Tigers fell to Shirley 63-28.
Rural Special was bounced by Concord 62-50 in the other boys’ game. Cole Linville was the Rebels’ top scorer with 19 points. Rural Special’s year ends at 3-20.
Lead Hill’s girls were one-and-done in the 1A-1 East District Tournament at Western Grove. The Lady Tigers lost to Omaha 44-32.
Elsewhere, Gainesville’s girls grabbed a win on their home floor. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Norwood 50-43.
The Mammoth Spring girls were able to beat Jasper 77-55 in Flippin’s old gym. Megyn Upton paced the Lady Bears with 15 points, Laney Young scored 14, Tay Davis had 13, and Brynn Washam chipped in 10 points. Mammoth Spring is now 24-7, and their first game in the 1A-3 District Tournament at Hillcrest Elementary School in Lynn will be Thursday.
