
The Viola High School basketball teams had mixed results Wednesday in the 1A-2 District Tournament at Shirley.
The Lady Longhorns secured a regional tournament bid with a 62-59 overtime victory over Izard County. A.J. McCandlis led Viola with 46 points. Viola improves to 17-15 on the season and will face top-seeded Norfork in Friday’s semifinals.
Viola’s boys watched their season come to an end with a 55-42 loss to Calico Rock. The Pirates will return to Shirley on Friday to take on Izard County.
The Mountain View boys were eliminated from the 3A-2 District Tournament at Riverview High School in Searcy. The Yellowjackets were upset by Newport 41-40.
Two area girls’ teams invoked the mercy rule to advance to the championship game of the 3A-1 District Tournament at Bergman. The host Lady Panthers routed Greenland 61-12, and Valley Springs pounded Elkins 55-21.
Harrison’s boys clinched a regional berth with another win in the 4A-1 District Tournament at Pea Ridge. The Goblins defeated Gravette 59-46, and they’ll play Berryville Friday in the semifinals.
