The Mountain Home High School basketball teams’ longest trip of the season was a rough one, as they were officially eliminated from postseason contention Friday at Greenwood.

The Bomber boys’ 20-point lead slipped away, as they fell to the Bulldogs 53-50. Mountain Home got off to a quick start by scoring the first 14 points of the game. The Bombers were up 29-9, but Greenwood followed up with an 11-0 run to end the half. The Bulldogs took their first lead in the third quarter. The two teams exchanged the lead seven times with one tie. Mountain Home recaptured the lead at 50-48 on a jumper by Ky Bickford, but it was short lived. L.J. Robins put Greenwood back on top with a 3. The Bulldogs later extended the advantage on a pair of free throws by Aiden Kennon. The Bombers had a chance to send the game to overtime, but Bickford’s 3 fell short.

Braiden Dewey led Mountain Home with 19 points, and Bickford added 16. Kennon scored 18 points for Greenwood, and Sam Forbus chipped in 12.

The Bombers fall to 3-21 on the season and 1-11 in the 5A-West. The Bulldogs improve to 9-17 and 5-7.

The night wasn’t any better for Mountain Home’s girls, as they lost to Greenwood 70-35. The game had one tie at 3-3, but the Lady Bulldogs took over from there. Greenwood forced the Lady Bombers into 24 turnovers. That combined with 11 3-pointers allowed the Lady Bulldogs to invoke the mercy rule in the final period.

No one was in double figures for Mountain Home. Greenwood was led by Mady Cartwright with 30 points, and Anna Trusty had 15.

The Lady Bombers drop to 5-20 overall and 2-10 in the league. The Lady Bulldogs are now 21-4 and 12-0.

Mountain Home’s last road trip of the season comes Tuesday at Greenbrier.

In other 5A-West girls’ action, Alma defeated Greenbrier 45-33, Siloam Springs breezed past Russellville 63-43, and Vilonia topped Van Buren 45-36. On the boys’ side, Greenbrier topped Alma 48-40, Vilonia pounded Van Buren 55-27, and it was Russellville over Siloam Springs 50-39.
