Personnel from the Norfork and Salesville departments, along with assistance from the Arkansas Department of Agriculture Forestry Division, are continuing efforts to contain a brush fire near Salesville that ignited Thursday evening.
Norfork Fire Department Chief Frankie Baker says the Forestry Division is utilized three planes in the effort to contain the blaze and protect a number of homes.
Chief Baker says the location is south of Arkansas Highway 5, just passed the Salesville city limits.
Baker says the blaze started when an individual was burning brush and left it unattended.
He says local firemen were hampered by the terrain and a bluff Thursday evening and were not able to reach the blaze, leading him to contact the Forestry Division since early Friday morning.
In response, three planes are being utilized in the effort, one spotter and two that each hold 700 gallons of water. He said late Friday afternoon the water planes had made between 10 and 15 drops.
In addition, a dozer is being utilized to cut a fire break, as efforts continue to protect seven house in the immediate area, as well as others on River Ridge Road.
