The Twin Lakes Area can now boast about having the first location of its kind in Arkansas to help veterans get back on their feet and into society. The Bob Davis Veterans Center held its grand opening on Friday with a couple of state dignitaries on hand during the ceremony. Arkansas Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin and Commissioner of Lands Tommy Land both spoke during the grand opening, and they also said they would each donate $1,000 to the center.

All of the funds for the center have been courtesy of donations and fundraisers from the community, and none have come from government money. Joanna Baxter-Farris has been one of the main volunteers in getting the center up and running, and she says the community support has been fantastic.

Baxter-Farris says the local center is the 11th of its kind in the United States. When it’s at capacity, it’s the largest in the country.

Land tells KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News one of the reasons he came to the opening was his respect for the men and women willing to risk their lives to preserve our freedom.

In addition to his role as lieutenant governor, Griffin continues to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve. He currently holds the rank of colonel and has been an officer in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps for nearly a quarter of a century.

While addressing his support for the veterans center, Griffin also took time to give his thoughts on the situation in Ukraine. He called Russia President Vladimir Putin an authoritarian willing to kill thousands of innocent lives for his own ambition, proving that evil still exists in the world.
