The West Plains High School girls’ basketball team will be in Springfield Friday to begin its second straight run in the Show Me Showdown. The Lady Zizzers’ semifinal game in the Class 5 State Tournament will be on the Missouri State University campus, as they meet Smithville.
West Plains entered the tournament as the champions of District 5. The Lady Zizzers are 25-4 following a win over Carl Junction in the quarterfinals Saturday at Bolivar.
Last season, West Plains was able to advance to the championship game. The Lady Zizzers ended up as the state runners-up after falling to Whitfield.
Smithville is 21-8 on the season. The Lady Warriors, the champions of District 8, defeated Raytown South in their quarterfinal game at Independence.
Tip-off at JQH Arena is scheduled for noon.
