The Cotter School Board accepted two resignations during its regular monthly session Thursday evening.
A summary of the minutes from the meeting indicates the resignations of Susi Vangiler, music/choir teacher, and Tina Hutson, cheer coach, were accepted effective at the end of the 2021-22 school year.
In other business, Superintendent Vanessa Thomas-Jones gave an update to the board on a request for a traffic light to be installed at the intersection of U.S. Highway 62/412 and Denton Ferry Road.
The letter from Cotter Mayor McGeorge Caradine indicates he is requesting a more in-depth study by the Arkansas Department of Transportation over a longer period be conducted to determine the need for the traffic light.
An earlier study indicated the location does not warrant a traffic light.
But Mayor Caradine says in his letter of request for the more in-depth study that the original consideration was taken during a slow time of year. He maintains a study is needed over a longer period over multiple days and several times in the spring, summer and fall to get an accurate traffic volume at the intersection.
Thomas-Jones gave the board an update on the district’s Ready for Learning Plan.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic and mandated school closure, Arkansas schools were instructed to create a re-entry plan for students returning to school for the 2020-21 school year.
Cotter Public Schools’ document outlines a plan for safely returning to school, as well as its transition to blended learning to ensure learning for all students anytime, anywhere.
In addition, the document serves as Cotter’s District Support Plan and outlines how learning will be supported to ensure success for all students.
The board also gave its approval to renewing contracts with Ozark Therapy for physical therapy services and Shining Stars Occupational Therapy. Both contracts are for the 2022-23 school year.
Thomas-Jones reported the elementary enrollment is 370, with the high school’s at 339.
