Melbourne athletes named MVPs of North Arkansas Senior Basketball Showcase

Izard County High School hosted the annual North Arkansas Senior Basketball Showcase Saturday in front of a capacity crowd in the Cougar Den. A total of 45 athletes from 16 schools competed in the All-Star games, and a pair of seniors from Melbourne were able to shine.

Kenley McCarn of the Lady Bearkatz was named the most valuable player of the girls’ game, as she led the East over the West 90-86. McCarn led the way with 33 points. Rural Special’s Brinkley Morgan was the West’s leading scorer with 30 points, and she was named the player of the game.

Bradie Gunther of Melbourne was selected as the MVP of the boys’ contest while leading the West to a 96-83 win over the East. Gunther was the top scorer with 18 points, and his teammate, Roby Cooper added 10. For the East, Norfork’s Will Martin scored 15 points, Dustin Turner of Lead Hill had 14, and Denton Reiley of Izard County chipped in 10.

McCarn also shined in one of the other competitions. The Tennessee-Martin signee won the three-point contest on the girls’ side.
