Yellville-Summit girls win Heber Springs Last Chance Relays

Two area high schools, Yellville-Summit and Salem, sent their track teams to Heber Springs on Friday for the Last Chance Relays.

The Lady Panthers ended up winning the girls’ team standings. The Lady Greyhounds finished 13th. Yellville-Summit’s Kambree Gibson and Sierra Burrow were second and third in the triple jump, Gibson took second place in the 100-meter hurdles, Gibson and teammate K.J. Moore ended up second and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles, Chloe Taylor of Salem and Gibson finished third and fourth in the 200-meter dash, Moore was tied for fourth in the high jump, Burrow and Gibson took fourth and fifth place in the long jump, Yellville-Summit’s Ella Lee and Salem’s Madi Price ended up fourth and fifth in the shot put, Emily Pena and Khloey Rogers of Yellville-Summit finished fourth and fifth in the discus, Gibson and Taylor were fourth and fifth in the 100-meter dash, Yellville-Summit’s Kaylee Martin took fourth place in the 800-meter run, Macey Cooper of Salem ended up fifth in the 3200-meter run, and Fay Chism of Yellville-Summit finished in a tie for fifth in the pole vault.

Yellville-Summit had four relay teams compete on the girls’ side. Moore, Martin, Chism and Jacey Davenport won the 4×400-meter relay; Chism, Abby Methvin, Davenport and Martin were third in the 4×800-meter relay; Davenport, Burrow, Hannah Hayward and Chism took third place in the 4×200-meter relay; and Burrow, Davenport, Chism and Moore ended up third in the 4×100-meter relay.

Salem was seventh on the boys’ side, and Yellville-Summit took 11th place. Beebe won the boys’ title. The Panthers’ Tyler Barrett won the discus, the Greyhounds’ Elijah Romine and Matthew Holloway finished first and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles, Barrett and Salem’s Tyler Siddons were second and third in the shot put, Holloway took third place in the long jump and fifth in the high jump, Yellville-Summit’s Lucas McVay and Caiden Curtis ended up third and fifth in the pole vault, and Romine finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles.

Yellville-Summit’s team of Robert Howell, Jaxton Decker, McVay and Rafe Heap prequalified for the state meet while finishing second in the 4×800-meter relay; and Caleb Hartle, Howell, Javen Keymer and Heap were fourth in the 4×400-meter relay.
