MHHS baseball, softball among 18 area teams advancing to state tournaments

A total of 18 teams will be competing in this week’s state tournaments for baseball, softball and soccer when they get underway Thursday.

The Mountain Home High School baseball team will be in Hot Springs for the start of the Class 5A State Tournament. The Bombers’ opening opponent will be Little Rock Christian. Mountain Home enters the tournament as the third-seeded team from the 5A-West. The Warriors are the No. 2 seed of the 5A-Central. The first pitch on the campus of Lakeside High School is scheduled for Thursday at 12:30.

Three area baseball teams will be in the Class 1A State Tournament hosted by Ouachita on Thursday. On the Ouachita High School campus, Izard County meets Ozark Catholic at 12:30, and Norfork faces County Line at 5:30. Lead Hill takes on Greers Ferry West Side at 3 at the Arkadelphia Youth Sports Complex.

Melbourne will take part Thursday in the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament hosted by South Side-Bee Branch. The Bearkatz play Murfreesboro at 5:30 on the campus of Greenbrier High School.

Harrison goes to Nashville Thursday for its opener in the Class 4A State Baseball Tournament. The Goblins will be paired with Star City at 5:30.

Mountain Home High School’s softball team starts its run in the Class 5A State Tournament Thursday at Majestic Park in Hot Springs. The Lady Bombers’ first opponent will be Benton. Mountain Home is the fourth-seeded team from the 5A-West. The Lady Panthers are the champions of the 5A-Central. The first pitch at Hank Aaron Field is scheduled for 3.

Three area softball teams will compete in the Class 2A State Tournament hosted by South Side-Bee Branch on Thursday. On the South Side campus, Melbourne and Woodlawn get underway at 10, and Flippin meets McCrory at 5:30. Cotter faces East Poinsett County at 3 at the Greenbrier Softball Complex.

Three area softball teams will gather at the Arkadelphia Youth Sports Complex on Thursday for the Class 1A State Tournament. Calico Rock and Jasper get started at 10, and Mammoth Spring takes on County Line at 5:30.

Valley Springs is the designated host school for the Class 3A State Softball Tournament at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. The Lady Tigers play Bald Knob Thursday at 10.

Harrison has a first round bye in the Class 4A State Softball Tournament at Nashville City Park. The Lady Goblins’ first game is Friday at 3 against the winner of Thursday’s game between Southside Batesville and Bauxite.

The Mountain View High School girls’ soccer team will compete in the Class 3A State Tournament Thursday morning. Bergman is the designated host for the touranment at the Anstaff Bank Soccer Complex in Harrison. The Lady Yellowjackets will be matched up with Green Forest at 9 at First Community Bank Field.

Both of Harrison’s soccer teams will be in Little Rock Thursday for the start of the Class 4A State Tournament. The Lady Goblins meet Heber Springs at 9 on the campus of Joe T. Robinson High School, and the Harrison boys face Brookland at 3 on the campus of Pulaski Academy.
