Rachel Howald, a senior at Mountain Home High School and Shannon Smith, a senior at Flippin High School, have been named winners in their respective congressional districts in the 2022 Congressional Art Competition. Their artwork will be on display and be seen by U.S. Capitol visitors in a prominent underground hallway connecting the U.S. Capitol and the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, D.C.

Howald was the winner in Arkansas’ 1st Congressional District and Smith was the winner in Arkansas’ 3rd Congressional District.

The 1st Congressional District included almost 200 artwork submissions, according to U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford’s office.

In the 3rd Congressional District, dozens of pieces of art from high schools throughout U.S. Rep. Steve Womack’s district were submitted. A panel of local judges reviewed the artwork, including officials with Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, according to Womack’s office.
