Big Creek Golf and Country Club was the site of one of the U.S. Junior Amateur Qualifiers on Friday. In a field that was more than half of out-of-state golfers, the four to qualify for the national championship are all Arkansans.

Thomas Curry of Texarkana won the boys’ side with a six-under-par 66, and Rhett South of Fayetteville was one stroke back to finish as the runner-up. Roby Cooper of Melbourne was the lone area golfer, and he was part of a five-way tie for 25th place with an 80. Curry and South will advance to the U.S. Junior Amateur later this month at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon.

There was a tie at the top of the girls’ leaderboard after Friday’s round. Grace Kilcrease of Springdale and Mackenzie Lee of North Little Rock both ended up with a three-under-par 69. Kilcrease and Lee will move on to the U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur this month at the Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
