A Baxter County man has been jailed on two-year-old probation violation and burglary charges after being picked up in Wright County, MO.
Fourty-two-year-old Michael Shane Burkeen who lists addresses in Gainesville, Mountain Grove and Mountain Home is facing multiple charges in regards to incidents occurring in 2020 and 2021.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the first incident occurred in January of 2020 when Mountain Home Police Officers were dispatched to a local business regarding a domestic battery situation. The victim reported Burkeen had been drinking alcohol and when they went to pick up their daughter from work, he began to punch the victim several times in the head and then proceeded to flee the area in the victim’s car. Witnesses state Burkeen had entered the local business prior to the incident and smelled of intoxicants.
The second incident occurred in September 2020 when Baxter County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in Mountain Home for a report of residential burglary.
The victim reported while he was at work someone entered the home through an unlocked door and began taking items from his residence. Investigators visited the residence where it was learned the victim hired a trustworthy business to work on his home, where Burkeen was employed. The victim stated he let the workers in through a hidden driveway which led to an unlocked door at the residence. According to the probable cause affidavit, the victim told the workers he would not be at the house the morning of the burglary and would return later in the afternoon.
Based on surveillance footage, it is said Burkeen arrived at the house early in the morning and proceeded to let himself in the house several times while removing items and placing them in a vehicle.
According to the victim and the contractor, Burkeen was the only person with the knowledge of the victim not being home and the back door being open.
Most recently, in October 2021, Burkeen was booked into the Ozark County Jail without bond for allegedly shooting at his neighbor.
According to Ozark County Times, officers dispatched to a reported shooting at the Cave Hollow community for reports of at least 10 shots being fired.
After arriving on scene, deputies made contact with the victim who stated Burkeen and one of Burkeen’s relatives had fired guns at him.
Burkeen has been booked on the 2020 charges and is facing charges of theft of property, residential burglary, domestic battery in the third degree, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and probation violation.
Bond is set at $11,300.
