It’s been just over a week since a fire damaged 26 boats and a dock at the Tracy Ferry Marina on Norfork Lake, and one individual sustained injuries to the back of the head and neck. While Tracy Area Fire Chief Tom Bensman and Assistant Fire Chief Cade Seal were not able to go into specifics about the fire, they were able to talk about the process of putting out the blaze.
Chief Bensman says fighting the fire on the water as opposed to land was a different experience.
Listen:
Seal follows up by saying he doesn’t know of any way to train for a fire on the water.
Listen:
Tracy Area was assisted on the scene by the Gamaliel, Salesville, Henderson, Mountain Home and Norfork fire departments, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Bensman says it was a big help to have several emergency personnel on the scene, and it was an added bonus for Gamaliel’s fire boat to already be out on the lake.
Listen:
Bensman says Baxter County is fortunate to have the current arsenal of volunteer firefighters, but more are needed. To seek more information about becoming a volunteer, contact the Tracy Area Fire Department at 870-491-5334.
