Law enforcement uses Air Pods to track down, arrest theft suspect

A suspect in a residential burglary in Baxter County was tracked down and arrested thanks to Air Pods he stole. The suspect, 31-year-old Tyler Joe Wheeler, has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2012.

In his latest arrest, it’s alleged Wheeler broke into a house on County Road 137 in the Henderson area while the homeowners had gone to the lake to swim for the afternoon. When they returned, the discovered the break in with a number of items missing including electronics and tools valued in excess of $5,000.

While investigators were still on the scene, one of the victims said her Air Pods could be tracked through an app on her phone. Investigators tracked the Air Pods to a home on State Highway 5 South.

While executing a search warrant at the residence, a vehicle parked in the driveway contained items matching the description of items taken in the burglary.

A cooperating individual told investigators they had been asked by Wheeler to help him the night of the alleged theft. Wheeler had lost the keys to his car while parked near a bridge on Lake Norfork and asked the individual to transport some items for him. The individual identified the items they transported as the items listed on the search warrant.

Wheeler is charged with two counts of breaking or entering and one count each of residential burglary and theft of property, all felonies. His bond is set at $20,000.
