Since its inception in 1999, an organization of community volunteers has assisted the Donald W. Reynolds Library in sustaining its programming and resources. The Baxter County Library Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit managing several restricted funds, earnings from which supplement community support for library programs, maintenance, information technology, staff support and special programs.

Baxter County Library Foundation Coordinator Adeana Estoll and Library Director Kim Crow-Sheaner were among the recent guests of the Talk of the Town on KTLO-FM. Crow-Sheaner says while the majority of the library’s revenue is from local property taxes, a significant portion is provided by the foundation.

The foundation’s Board of Trustees manages some invested funds received from a grant during its capital campaign to construct the building. The foundation still has money from that grant, and the board will make sure the investments continue make money to give to the library. Estoll says the foundation will always accept donations to help those funds grow.

For the past couple of years, the foundation has been forced to hold off on some of its biggest fundraising events due to the coronavirus pandemic, but one will return at the end of this month. The Ante Up for the Library Texas Hold’em Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, July 30, at Big Creek Golf and Country Club. Registration will start at noon, and the cards will start being dealt an hour later. Participants will play for prizes, including a special prize for the best hand. Door prizes will also be awarded throughout the tournament, and heavy snacks will be available. Players must be at least 21 years of age, and identification is required.

Estoll says there are multiple avenues available to sign up for the poker tournament.
