The latest U.S. Drought Monitor shows the area of extreme drought conditions is expanding in north central Arkansas and southern Missouri. The new map, which was released Thursday morning, shows most of Fulton County and the southern half of Howell county now in extreme drought.

The map shows the rest of north central Arkansas and southern Missouri in the severe drought category.
There have been some spotty rain showers this week in the area, but it was not enough to help with the current drought conditions.
Burn bans remain in effect for every county in northern Arkansas and several cities have also issued burn bans. The bans issued by county judges cover the unincorporated areas of that county. Mayors can issue burn bans for their city.
