In 2021, the Cotter School Board approved of the construction to connect 10 additional classrooms to the high school facility. Since that time, construction costs have risen due to the recent inflation trend. During July’s regular session, the board had to decide if they want to proceed with the project. Superintendent Jayme Jones tells KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News the cost has gone from $165 to $210 per square foot. The board unanimously approved the continuation of the project. Jones says the district is having to extend its bonds for 30 years, and no millage increase is necessary.
In other business, a general service agreement was unanimously approved by the board to continue between the Cotter and Flippin school districts. Marcia Ivens will remain as the food service director for both districts.
Ivens also presented recommendations for Hiland Dairy to provide milk and juice and Tankersley Foodservice to provide bread, soap and chemicals. She also recommended Tankersley Foodservice and Springfield Grocer to provide other groceries and miscellaneous items. The board unanimously agreed.
The board also agreed with a 5-0 vote to renew the property and vehicle insurance for the 2022-2023 school year through the
Arkansas Public School Insurance Trust. The cost is 12,631 for the vehicle insurance and $31,133 for the property insurance.
In addition, the board unanimously approved Jones’ recommendation to approve the Arkansas Public School Resource Center Renewal for 2022-2023. They also agreed to renew the district’s contract with Pepsi as its soft drink provider.
The board also unanimously approved of several student transfers. Five students will transfer out with two going to Mountain Home, one to Flippin and two to Yellville-Summit. Two other students will transfer in from Flippin.
