A woman charged with shooting at her ex-husband pled guilty to aggravated assault on a family or household member during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court recently.

Forty-five-year-old Stacy Michelle Shelton was sentenced to four years probation.

On May 11 last year, a male called the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office and reported his former wife had shot at him.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the victim said he was hiding in nearby woods waiting on deputies to arrive.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived they found Shelton in front of the house along Fallwood Terrace in Henderson.

She is reported to have raised her hands and was checked for weapons. Shelton told the deputies the gun she had used was under a boat in the yard.

The boat was sitting on the ground and was being used as a planter. The 9-millimeter handgun was located under the stern of the boat.

The ex-husband said he had come to the residence to collect personal property to take back to Jonesboro where he lives.

Shelton is reported to have become very angry and demanded the ex-husband return the property he had put on a trailer. The victim said since his ex-wife was holding a handgun he complied.

The victim told deputies an argument had developed between the divorced couple. The victim reported Shelton had hit him “a couple of times” in the face.

He eventually told her he was leaving and she is said to have pointed the pistol in her ex-husband’s direction and fired one shot.

He was not hit. Shelton admitted she fired the gun, but said it was never her intention to shoot her ex-husband.

Shelton told deputies she was angry that he was taking property out of the residence. She said she was asleep and unaware when he started loading items on his trailer.
